Samantha Alvarez, MD, FNP-C

Medical Screening Team Lead

Samantha has been a nurse practitioner since 2009, and leading her team of plant medicine experience medical screeners since 2023. She has spoken with over a thousand individuals interested in experiencing plant medicine about whether they can do so safely. Samantha loves to travel, learn about cultures and languages, sing, as well as play with and parent her toddler. Samantha just finished her MD degree and will start psychiatry residency in California. She currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and intends to continue to specialize in psychedelics and plant medicines as a psychiatrist.

Theresa Sutak, FNP-C

Plant Medicine Safety Consultant

Theresa has been a family nurse practitioner since 2016  in a wide variety of clinical environments. She joined Safe Plant Journey in 2024 and has helped hundreds of individuals in their journey toward a safe plant medicine experience. Theresa enjoys a fulfilling life outside Dayton, Ohio, where she loves her husband, her home and her dogs. She is excited to work with plant medicine with its potential to improve mental, emotional and spiritual health. 

Erika Beerbower, PharmD

Plant Medicine Safety Consultant

Erika has been a Pharmacist since 2005 and began working with plant medicines in 2020. She is a member of the Psychedelic Pharmacists Association, has written papers on drug interactions and medical conditions with psychedelics, and created screening algorithms for plant medicine retreats. She has a passion for harm reduction and education in the psychedelic space and has been called to this work through her personal relationship with plant medicine. Erika loves to play music, garden, travel, snowboard, hike, and do yoga.
